Eng. Benjamin J. Mchwampaka, Executive Secretary, Chamber of Mines Tanzania

Eng. Benjamin J. Mchwampaka is a seasoned Mining Engineer with more than 30 years of experience in the mining industry in Tanzania. His first employer was the Ministry of Minerals where he started as a junior mining engineer and he rose to become a Principal Mining Engineer and later was appointed as the Commissioner for Minerals in Tanzania. He was later transferred to the National Environment Management Council (NEMC) under the Vice President’s Office where he held various managerial positions before becoming the coordinator of a 7.4 million US$ project called Environmental Health and Pollution Management (GEF funded) that is responsible for reducing use of mercury in Artisanal and Small-Scale Gold Mining in Tanzania, a position he held until compulsory retirement in December, 2021. He joined the Chamber in January, 2022.

Michael Strain, Managing Partner, Bowmans Tanzania

Michael Strain is one of East Africa’s most active corporate/M&A lawyers. Based in Tanzania but also covering the wider region. Within Tanzania he has a comprehensive corporate/commercial practice covering all aspects of non-contentious transactional and regulatory advice (including market entry); and across East Africa, particularly in Tanzania, Kenya, Ethiopia and Uganda, Michael advises large corporates, financial institutions, private equity firms and high-net-worth individuals on all forms of equity investments, acquisitions and disposals.

Donald Nsanyiwa, Tax Partner and Head of Tax, Ernst & Young Tanzania

Donald Nsanyiwa is a highly esteemed tax expert with a remarkable career spanning over 17 years in Tanzanian tax laws and regulations. He is currently a Tax Partner and the Head of Tax practice at EY Tanzania, where he leads a dynamic team of tax and legal professionals. His leadership and expertise have been instrumental in steering the tax practice to new heights. Throughout his tenure in Tax and Regulatory Services, Donald has played a pivotal role in numerous tax reviews, due diligence assignments, and tax training programs. He has also been heavily involved in audits conducted by the Tanzania Revenue Authority. His keen ability to identify areas of tax exposure and uncover tax planning opportunities has been invaluable to clients, providing them with strategic advantages in managing their tax affairs. Donald's influence extends beyond client services, as he has actively participated in lobbying for tax reforms and addressing other tax issues. He has engaged with the private sector through various platforms, including events with the Tanzania Private Sector Foundation (TPSF), such as the TRA-Business Community Engagement Event and the CEO’s Business Breakfast meeting for TPSF’s Corporate Cluster Members.
